The new scheme, announced by the Minister for Social Protection, Joan Burton will provide 5,000 unemployed people with an internship opportunity ranging from six to nine months in the private, public or community and voluntary sectors. During this time participants will receive an allowance, which will consist of a €50.00 per week top up on their existing social welfare entitlements. Participants will receive €50.00 in addition to their existing social welfare payment and they will retain all of their secondary benefits.
