Freedom of Information

The Freedom of Information Acts (1997&2003) assert the right of members of the public to obtain access to official information held by public bodies (where consistent with the public interest and the right to privacy of individuals).

To learn more about Freedom of Information you are advised to read the Manual (known as Section 15 & 16 Reference Manual), available to download here.  This will explain how FOI works and the procedures applicable to Westmeath County Enterprise Board.

If you wish to make an official request for information under the Freedom of Information Act, you should in the first instance contact :

If you proceed with an official FOI request, you should complete the FOI Request Application Form available from Westmeath County Enterprise Board or you can download the application form here.  This application form should be accompanied by a fee of €15.00 payable by cheque or bank draft, to Westmeath County Enterprise Board.  Search, retrieval and copying fees may apply and will be explained to you in advance.

Re-Use of Public Sector Information

An EU Directive on the re-use of Public Sector Information was transposed into Irish Law recently.  The rationale behind the Directive stems from the fact that the Public Sector holds large amounts of data and this data should be seen as a potentially valuable resource which could be used to create new products, businesses and employment.   The Directive allows certain data (i.e. data not precluded under a Freedom of Information exemption, copyright or personal data) held by the public sector to be used by the public.

Re-use includes copying, issuing copies to the public, publishing, broadcasting and translating into other languages. It also covers non-commercial research and studies.

Westmeath County Enterprise Board complies with the regulations on the re-use of Public Sector Information  and we encourage the re-use of the information we produce.  The regulations are available at www.psi.gov.ie.  Information and documents obtained from this website may be reproduced and /or re-used subject to the latest PSI licence available at www.psi.gov.ie

Certain conditions apply to the re-use of information :

-Acknowledge the source in cases where you supply the information to others.

-Reproduce the information accurately.

-The information is not to be used in a misleading way.

-Information must not be used for the principal purpose of advertising or promoting a particular product or service.

-Not use the information for or in support of illegal, immoral, fradulent, or dishonest purposes.
